Travel Destination Sorrento, Italy

Winter is finally over!  Soon summer will be here and the kids will be out of school. It’s time to start planning our family summer vacation. This year we are going back to Sorrento, Italy where we’ve been a couple of times. Why do we love Sorrento? Well, who doesn’t love Italy? Sorrento is located in the Amalfi Coast area of Italy. The Amalfi Coast  includes the romantic towns of Positano and Ravello. Sorrrento is supposedly where the drink “limoncello” originated. Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, and Herculaneum are some of the sites that you can explore nearby. My children never get tired of Pompeii. It is truly an amazing ruin to explore (cash only admission). The island of Capri is only a 20 minute ferry ride from Sorrento. We stay in Sorrento as our base to explore the surrounding areas because the town is very family oriented and user friendly. There are more hotels to choose from. The majority of hotels in Sorrento have swimming pools overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Pool is a must for us because of our children. They prefer to swim in the pool instead of the sea. Most hotels offer free breakfast buffets with their room prices. The town of Sorrento is also absolutely gorgeous! The food is amazing and reasonable, but most of all, the people are just some of the nicest people you will meet in this world. They truly make you feel like you are a part of their town. While in Sorrento, go to Pizzeria Da Franco if you love pizza. One of the best pizzas we’ve ever had. This is where the locals go for pizza. Don’t miss their Bresaola appetizer. It is absolutely delicious! Bring cash since they don’t take credit cards. If you want front row seats to relax and enjoy the city center of Sorrento, grab a table at Fauno Restaurant. It is a great place to people watch while enjoying your food with a glass of wine, a cup of cappuccino, or espresso. For a fee, we had our hotel arranged a car and a driver/tour guide to explore the Amalfi Coast and visit towns like Positano, Ravello, and the town of Amalfi. It was just easier for my family especially with children, and we were able to just sit back, enjoy the ride, and explore those beautiful towns. To get to Sorrento, Italy you need to fly in to Naples, Italy (some people take the train from other cities to Sorrento). From Naples International Airport, you can have your hotel arrange a car for pick up to bring you to your hotel. It’s about a 45 minute drive (depending on traffic) on the coastline of Amalfi to Sorrento. The drive itself is very scenic. Ciao Bello!
