Description

Sorrento is located in the Amalfi Coast area of Italy where romantic towns of Positano and Ravello are located. It is famous for the drink “limoncello”. Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum are some of the sites you can explore while in Sorrento. You can take the train from downtown to Pompeii. It stops at the main entrance of Pompeii. Our kids never get tired of Pompeii. It is truly an amazing ruin to explore (cash only admission). The island of Capri is only a 20 minute ferry ride from Sorrento. We stay in Sorrento as our base because the town is very family oriented, user friendly and has more hotels to choose from. The majority of hotels have swimming pools overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Pool is a must because our children prefer swimming in the pool instead of the sea. Most hotels offer free breakfast with their room prices. The town is absolutely gorgeous! The food is amazing and reasonable, but most of all the people are just some of the nicest people you will meet. They truly make you feel like you are part of their town. While in Sorrento, go to Pizzeria Da Franco if you love pizza. One of the best we’ve ever had! It’s where the locals go for pizza. Don’t miss their Bresaola appetizer. It is absolutely delicious! Bring cash since they don’t take credit cards. If you want front row seats to relax and enjoy the city center, grab a table at Fauno Bar restaurant. It’s a great place to people watch while enjoying your food with a glass of wine, a cup of cappuccino or espresso. We had our hotel arranged a car and a driver/tour guide for us to explore the Amalfi Coast and visit towns like Positano, Ravello and Amalfi. It made it easier when traveling with kids and be able to just sit back and enjoy the ride. To get to Sorrento you fly in to Naples, Italy (some people take the train from other cities to Sorrento). From Naples International Airport, you can have your hotel arrange a car to pick you up and take you to your hotel. It’s about a 45 minute ride (depending on traffic). The drive is very scenic. Ciao!
